A Taste of Courage, D.C. promotes the idea that courage is the root to all virtues. It is a modern approach towards community gathering and goal fulfillment. An open space for growth and perspective. A stimulus, meant to inspire a culture that encourages confidence in one another.

This is a group for anyone interested in spiritual awakening, deep conversations, mindfulness and meditation practices, exploring your present intentions (goals), and engaging accountability around your intentions (goals) through community.

Prior to each session there will be GROWTHwork (a short blog reading or video). During the gathering you can expected to be led through a mindfulness exercise with essential oils, time to connect with others, and converasation led around a powerful question. By the end of the conversation, it is my hope that you will walk away lighter...more aware and aligned in the direction of your destiny.

Mr. Mikes Music

This class is a great activity for you and your child. A Music Together® class can benefit children for the the rest of their lives. Children explore the world in completely different ways than adults. They use many different languages–the language of clay, the language of blocks, the language of paper and crayon, and of course, the language of sound.

Classes meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks. During the class period, children and their caregivers play with music and movement exploring a diverse range of sound and rhythm. Caregiver participation provides an atmosphere that allows children to freely explore music and dance. Music Together classes allow parents and young children the chance to explore their relationship in a musical way. In addition, the diversity of music provides a strong musical foundation for future formal instruction.

Film Preview And Q&A: Altars A Cross-Cultural Day of the Dead

As a writer who covered the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, Barrett Pitner recognized how following the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and Jordan Davis, the Black community would create altars and safe spaces to mourn the loss of Black life, defend their culture, and discuss the life and experiences of Black people in America. Barrett saw this movement as an organic, reactionary iteration of Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead for centuries has provided people with an annual opportunity to collectively deal with the trauma of loss, celebrate their culture, and tell the stories of their ancestors, and America needs this vital resource now more than ever. As a Black American who has participated in Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, and written about Black Live Matter, Pitner has spent a long time thinking about how he could incorporate this valuable tradition into his community to address the needs his community demanded via BLM.

Altars: A Cross-Cultural Day of the Dead is the manifestation of Pitner’s work, and we welcome the chance to tell you more about this vital project, and add you to the growing Altars community as we pursue financing to complete filming by November 2019.

The event will consist of a film preview followed by Q&A with Barrett Pitner. The discussion will be led by Claudia Flores, the Immigration Campaign Manager at the Center for American Progress.

Free RSVP here.
